6th Annual Kiwanis Best South Cape Martini Competition

The Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral has expanded its fund-raising efforts for their “Childhood Hunger Backpack Program” by once again accepting the role of host of this event.
The 2012 event will be Saturday, January 28th
There are only 1,000 tickets available, and they quickly sell out. Ticket holders will be shuttled by trolleys to the various locations within South Cape that are competing, and at the end of the evening they serve as the judges that vote on the best martini. $1000 for best Martini, $350 for Second, $150 for third. This year, Kiwanis will award a $500 cash prize for the participating establishment that serves “The Best Appetizer”

Each tasting location will serve a delicious appetizer. Ticket holders will gather at Leapin Lizard and Big John’s Plaza (Club Square) for the check-in process starting at 6:45 PM to obtain their wristband and passport to the event and then travel to the different locations by trolley. The cost of the ticket covers the transportation, the martini samples, and the appetizers. Many Locations will be offering live music, and no place will charge a cover that night for Trolly riders. First responders, airline crew members & Kiwanis Key Club to participate in ‘Day of Remembrance’ in Cape Coral

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited.

Honored will be those who lost their lives in the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, including members of the New York police and fire departments, the New York Port Authority Police, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, military personnel, civilians of the World Trade Center and Pentagon and passengers and crew members from American Airlines flights 11 and 77 and United Airlines flights 175 and 93.

Also participating will be members of the Cape Coral police and fire departments, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Coast Guard, Fish and Wildlife Commission, Sanibel Police Department, Fort Myers Beach Fire Department, American Airlines Kiwis, Harp and Thistle Pipes & Drums, harpist Barbara Kraichy, vocalist Terry Stewart, Kiwanis Key Club, Southwest Florida Doves, bugle player Bob Day and the Lee County Civil Air Patrol Cadets.
